Does the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer have transmission problems?

Owner complaints say yes, as a model-year pattern. 51 of 110 relevant complaints filed with NHTSA about the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer concern the engine, transmission or fuel system (47%), and the largest group is filed under power train (34). For comparison, the 2021 scores 42% and the 2023 scores 48%. On a test drive, check for shuddering, slipping, delayed or harsh shifts, or a whine at speed. This describes the model year, not any one car: a well-maintained or already-repaired example can be fine, and a clean model year can still have a bad car in it.

Manufacturers fix things mid-generation. A bad year next to a clean one is common; the fix usually arrived in between.

The percentage is each model year's drivetrain complaint share. No elevated signal describes the model year, not any one car; a well-kept example of a flagged model can still be the right buy, and any of these still needs an inspection.

When putting the gear shift into park there is a constant SHIFT TO PARK message that plays even when shifted to park and forces the car to stay in accessory mode. This drains the battery and does not allow car to shut down fully. This is a known issue with this make and model of vehicle and GM refuses to make any chang…

When entering onto the freeway, I accelerated to the speed of the freeway traffic and the turbo system failed and the message was ENGINE POWER REDUCED and the check engine light came on. During the time of the turbo failure, I was almost hit by another vehicle that had to suddenly brake to avoid hitting me. This turbo…

When I shut off the engine, it says “Shift to park” and the car will not turn off. To get it to turn off, I have to turn the car back on (usually multiple times), until it recognizes that it IS in park.

Should I buy a 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer?

That depends on the car in front of you, not just the model year. The 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer has an elevated transmission complaint pattern, so treat it as a car that needs proof: service records showing transmission work, a cold-start test drive, and an independent pre-purchase inspection focused on the transmission. A well-kept or already-repaired example can be a fine car; an unknown one is a gamble.
