2017 Hyundai Accent: engine and transmission complaints

VERY HIGH COMPLAINT SIGNAL
60%
29 of 48 relevant owner complaints are about the engine, transmission or fuel system

60% of relevant owner complaints filed with NHTSA on the 2017 Hyundai Accent are about the engine, transmission or fuel system. Well over half of everything owners reported is the drivetrain. That is a severe model-level pattern; every model year we track at this level has a documented failure behind it.

Worse than 80% of the 1,230 model years we track (2010–2023).

Excludes 20 airbag, lighting and seat-belt recall complaints that would otherwise mask the signal (unadjusted: 43%).

Manufacturers fix things mid-generation. A bad year next to a clean one is common; the fix usually arrived in between.

The percentage is each model year's drivetrain complaint share. No elevated signal describes the model year, not any one car; a well-kept example of a flagged model can still be the right buy, and any of these still needs an inspection.

What owners reported

ENGINE07/17/2026
I have replaced the GDI engine on the 2017 Hyundai Accent once. I have also had the catalytic converter replaced 3x. The car lunges as if there will be another catalytic converter issue soon. Hyuandi recommended a fuel induction completion to prevent the issue from occurring again, but it did. This is a safety issue …
AIR BAGS,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM03/04/2026
I have had this vehicle for 5 years and even replaced the engine in this vehicle for it to end up with the same issue. I take very good care of it and get its maintenance done. But the car is slow to get up to speed and misfires really bad. I replaced the spark plugs in it and they were coated in oil. The airbag sensor…
UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM12/09/2025
For the past year I keep having to replace the catalytic converter, ignition coils and spark plugs every 2/3months. I just replaced the catalytic converter in October with a tune up. A month later had to replace spark plugs.
