2021 GMC Acadia: engine and transmission complaints

HIGH COMPLAINT SIGNAL
47%
64 of 137 relevant owner complaints are about the engine, transmission or fuel system

47% of relevant owner complaints filed with NHTSA on the 2021 GMC Acadia are about the engine, transmission or fuel system. That is a model-level pattern, not bad luck.

Worse than 58% of the 1,230 model years we track (2010–2023).

Excludes 11 airbag, lighting and seat-belt recall complaints that would otherwise mask the signal (unadjusted: 43%).

Manufacturers fix things mid-generation. A bad year next to a clean one is common; the fix usually arrived in between.

Other midsize SUVs with no elevated signal in 2021

The percentage is each model year's drivetrain complaint share. No elevated signal describes the model year, not any one car; a well-kept example of a flagged model can still be the right buy, and any of these still needs an inspection.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM07/18/2026
I have seen numerous complaints for this same issue. My 2021 Acadia with 31,600 miles failed to start when parked in garage. It turned over just fine but wouldn't fire as if it wasn't getting any fuel. I had it towed to my regular mechanic. He troubleshot it and told me it was the "Fuel Pump Power Control Module". …
STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE05/30/2026
Display suddenly says "Steering assistance reduced, drive with care" Temp gauge goes to C and stays there. Radiator fans speed up and stay on after the car has been turned off. Dealer unable to find a diagnostic code for the problem.
POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM05/12/2026
This is a very known issue that has been reoccurring with GMC Acadia. The torque converter slipping. That cost alone is over $7.000 for the transmission. I am still making monthly payments for my 2021 Acadia. With rising cost above the board GMC could have resolved this issue before releasing this vehicle to the publi…
