2022 Dodge Durango: engine and transmission complaints

HIGH COMPLAINT SIGNAL
53%
17 of 32 relevant owner complaints are about the engine, transmission or fuel system

53% of relevant owner complaints filed with NHTSA on the 2022 Dodge Durango are about the engine, transmission or fuel system. That is a model-level pattern, not bad luck.

Worse than 69% of the 1,230 model years we track (2010–2023).

Excludes 24 airbag, lighting and seat-belt recall complaints that would otherwise mask the signal (unadjusted: 30%).

Manufacturers fix things mid-generation. A bad year next to a clean one is common; the fix usually arrived in between.

Other midsize SUVs with no elevated signal in 2022

The percentage is each model year's drivetrain complaint share. No elevated signal describes the model year, not any one car; a well-kept example of a flagged model can still be the right buy, and any of these still needs an inspection.

Vehicle will not shift into drive. This issue is similar to the ZB3 problem. Improperly heat treated shifter parts failed and will not allow the transmission to shift into drive.

Vehicle engine shut off while driving approximately 50mph. No prior issues or warning lamps. The failure happened without any warning. I had over half a tank of fuel at the time of the stall. Loss of engine propulsion is extremely dangerous as I was in rush hour traffic on a major highway in Houston, TX. Luckily t…
