2018 Mazda Mazda6: engine and transmission complaints

VERY HIGH COMPLAINT SIGNAL
68%
39 of 58 relevant owner complaints are about the engine, transmission or fuel system

68% of relevant owner complaints filed with NHTSA on the 2018 Mazda Mazda6 are about the engine, transmission or fuel system. Well over half of everything owners reported is the drivetrain. That is a severe model-level pattern; every model year we track at this level has a documented failure behind it.

Worse than 90% of the 1,230 model years we track (2010–2023).

Manufacturers fix things mid-generation. A bad year next to a clean one is common; the fix usually arrived in between.

Other midsize sedans with no elevated signal

The percentage is each model year's drivetrain complaint share. No elevated signal describes the model year, not any one car; a well-kept example of a flagged model can still be the right buy, and any of these still needs an inspection.

Fuel pump is leaking, just as all the other 2018-2020 fuel pumps but mine doesn’t qualify for the recall.

The car only has 70k miles on it. The engine started smoking under the hood. Immediately stopped to look. There was oil leaking but I could not see from where. I took it across the street to the Toyota dealership and had them look at it. They explained to me that there was a crack in the cylinder head and oil was leaki…

Crack in Cylinder Head of engine. Mazda has been sued about this and have issued recalls on turbo engines, but not on non turbo ones though its the same systemic design issue with these engines. Wants me to pay 5-7k out of pocket.
